St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago, Illinois is a sight not to be missed.The 2012 event takes place on Saturday, March 17 and begins with the ever-popular River Dye at 10:00 am in the morning, which entails dyeing the Chicago River dyed bright green. At noon, at the corner of Balbo and Columbus, the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade gets underway.
This spectacular event is attended by thousands of people features a colorful array of floats along with the St. Patrick’s Day Queen and her Court. The parade heads north on Columbus Drive and ends up in front of Buckingham Fountain where the viewing stand awaits. Everyone is encouraged to wear green to engender the luck of the Irish and to check out the green beer that most of the downtown Chicago bars serve. A week after the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 25 is Chicago’s Shamrock Shuffle, an 8K race that kicks off the city’s running and racing season.
