Stetson’s Chop House Cellar Selection: Diemersdal Estate, Merlot
With winemaking in the family’s history for the past six generations, rest assured they are doing something right. Since the beginning of Diemersdal in the 1800s, they’ve counted on the resources of the region such as the diverse soils and slopes, to provide the optimum conditions for making premium-quality wines with prominent varietal character. The dry land vineyards develop concentrated flavours, evenly ripened by the cooling sea-breezes from the Atlantic Ocean.
This winemaking family were certainly not the first to indulge in winemaking. The task dates back to 1659 South Africa.
This week’s Cellar Selection is the merlot. The nose on this particular wine seduces with beautiful ripe blackberry and dried fruit aromas along with spicy undertones. This wine is well structured with elegance and mouth filling fruit flavors. Hints of cedar wood, mint and spice flavors follow through on the palate.
