St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago is a celebration like no other. From lively taverns serving up oodles of green beer, to parades and festivals, Chicago transforms into a full-blown emerald paradise. Whether you are Irish or simply Irish at heart, you won’t want to miss the festivities, which take place on Saturday, March 11th. Below are our suggestions for a fun-filled day!
DYEING OF THE CHICAGO RIVER
One of the most famous traditions, the dyeing of the Chicago River, dates back 50 years! By way a little St. Paddy’s Day magic, the entire river turns into a bright green masterpiece while thousands of excited bystanders take watch.
Dyeing begins at 9AM. The best place to catch a look is along Columbus Dr. and Wacker Ave., which is located right out the front entrance of Hyatt Regency Chicago.
ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
Chicago is also home to one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the country! This year’s parade celebrates its 62nd anniversary and will include Irish dancers, bagpipes and of course, plenty of green!
The parade kicks off at 12PM at Balbo and Columbus Drive and will head north up Columbus. Catch a glimpse of the parade as it crosses over the Columbus Bridge, which is viewable out the front entrance of Hyatt Regency Chicago.
